How to Fix Foundation Thats Too Light or Too Dark

As always, I LOVE to share my makeup experience but this tip is one you need to file in your beauty memory bank. How do you fix a foundation that is too dark? Or, how do you fix a foundation that is too light? Both are valid everyday foundation mishaps. Fear no more! I’ve got you sorted.

Foundation Fix | Too Light or Too Dark Fix.

Even someone who works in makeup like myself can occasionally pop the wrong shade of foundation on. I’ve often picked up the wrong shade in a rush in the morning and once applied thought ‘Oh no, I’m not tanned enough for this’, or equally ‘This foundation is too light!’ Here are my quick makeup artists’ tips on how to change up a foundation that’s too light or too dark.

This is the perfect way to change up your foundation throughout the year. For example, if you don’t have various shades for when you’re paler or more tanned, or indeed if you’ve purchased foundation that’s really not your true match. Using your contour and concealer, you can tone up or down a mismatched foundation.

Add a much warmer cream contour to your look when your foundation is too light for your face. Use a cream contour - ideally not powder as this can look muddy. The cream contour will melt seamlessly into your lighter foundation warming the tone up. You can use a lighter shade if you prefer to start, or indeed very little if the contour is warmer in colour…blend, blend, blend. Less is more so you can always add. Just sit back and gauge when it’s starting to look more like your foundation face colour is now connecting with the rest of your body colour!

Add a lighter creamy concealer and tone down the colour. Place this, where you conceal, so forehead, under the eyes, down the nose, chin and under the cheeks. Then blend, blend, blend. Again, less is more and you can always add.
